January 1, 2022
We have some hopeful news to begin 2022. A portion of the Saddleback Marathon route has recently re-opened! Holy Jim lot in Trabuco Canyon is now open and you can take Holy Jim up to the falls (which is lovely). The trail remains closed up to The Main Divide for now. But the remainder of Holy Jim, The Main Divide, as well as, Trabuco are slotted to re-open August 2022. These trails aren’t absolutely necessary for a Saddleback Marathon because we don't mind re-routing but the re-opening of trails is certainly moving in the right direction!
Wishing you a happy New Year! May it be filled with many new adventures.
The Saddleback Marathon 2019 was re-routed due to the #HolyFire. Last year the marathon was an out-and-back on technical single-track for nearly the entire race.
Southern California's premiere trail marathon was first run in the Saddleback Mountains of the Cleveland National Forest in 1988. An annual event for nearly three decades, it was cancelled due to #HolyFire on its 30th anniversary in 2018. Saddleback Mountain trails are where so many of us in Southern California fell in love with trail running.
